Jason Hywood
When did you join PACC?
I joined the Port Adelaide Camera Club in 2014.
What got you interested in photography?
I have always been captivated by nature and in particular
Weather. I got my first camera in Year10 and it was a Sony Cybershot DSC V1 and
I was blown away by its whopping 5 mega pixels. About 6yrs ago I needed an
outlet, my passion for weather and photography really kicked in and after
joining the club in 2014 my passion became a really hobby one that was helped
by the support and guidance of the club.
What do you shoot with?
I currently shoot with a Nikon D7100 crop sensor DSLR. My
workhorse lens is a Sigma f/1.8 18-35mm Art series lens. My other lens is a
Nikon f/2.8 70-200mm. I also have a Nikon SB910 flash but I have no idea what
I’m doing with it as it’s about as technical as my DSLR, I‘ll learn how to use
it one day.
What is your most memorable photographic moment?
My most memorable photographic moment outside family shots
is my involvement as a photographer in the Adelaide Credit Union Christmas
Pageant. Being part of something larger than life and doing something I love
doing, seeing so many smiling faces not only from the people involved in the
pageant but the thousands that line the streets of Adelaide. As photographers
we capture moments in time so to be able to capture such a vibrant and happy
occasion in time gave me such an amazing buzz and something I’ll always
remember.
What is your favourite subject/image, and Why?
Hands down my most favourite subject is Weather. I created
and run the South Australian Weather Facebook page and my goal was not just to
bring SA relevant weather information but to capture all that Mother Nature has
to offer our amazing state and display it for others to see. Whether its snow,
sunsets or thunderstorms I have a real passion for getting out in the elements
and being there in the moment. One moment I’d planned and hoped for, came to
fruition after waiting for the opportunity for 6 months. I wanted to capture a
thunderstorm with the new Adelaide oval in the foreground. So after waiting for
the right weather event I went out at 11pm to the city and waited. The below
shot is the end result.
