March 2017 Competition Results | Creative & Open

The subjects this month were 'Creative' and 'Open' and we had 95 entries.  A little lower than previous monthly competitions, however, this allowed the Judge, Keith Seidel, the opportunity to elaborate on his critique.  I found Keith's way of explaining things most informative, and hope our newer members gained some insight into this wonderfully creative hobby we call 'photography'.

Congratulations Howard Speed

Howard Speed, who has been a member of PACC since 2014 was honoured on Friday March 17th at the SAPF AGM by the Management Committee for his extraordinary contribution to the SAPF as resident Historian.

I quote a portion of the article from the SAPF website:

Howard has served the SAPF and affiliated clubs in many ways for several decades but has held the role of Historian for over 20 years after being asked by Doug and Barbara Mullins to take care of the Permanent Collection. This comprises slides, prints and digital images as well as photographic equipment.

Howard holds a wealth of knowledge of the history of photography in South Australia and is very proud of the achievements of his home state on the national and international photographic stage. He has written several booklets on various aspects of SA photographic history and still offers talks to our clubs on various historical topics of interest. In his eighties he is still busy interviewing his peers to ensure that their history is not lost.

We are very proud to have Howard as a member of the Port Adelaide Camera Club and congratulate him on his achievements.

Please visit the SAPF website to read the rest of the story HERE

Cheers!

2017 PACC Annual Snap-a-thon #6

Each year, PACC have a Snap-a-thon.

What is a Snap-a-thon? I hear you ask .... well it's a bit scavenger hunt, a bit of photography, a bit of walking, a bit of a competition and a whole lot of fun!

We had 2 hours to photograph 5 items on a list (which was given out at the beginning of the night) and the photos needed to be taken within a set boundary, which this year, is the same area for our Trophy Subject 'Our Port Adelaide'.  Members will have a little over a week to submit their photos to the Snapathon competition, and the good news this year is that Associate Members can enter this particular competition.

The weather was kind to us, although not quite kind enough to give us some clouds which would have made for some great sunset shots :( never mind, there is always next year!

Even though the event is finished, you can see all the details on Facebook HERE.

Huge thanks to Paula McManus for organising another successful night out!

Stay tuned for the results of our Snap-a-thon #6 competition - winners will be revealed at the club meeting on Tuesday, 4th April 2017.

If you would like to know about future events, or just know a little bit more about the club, please subscribe to our Newsletter - see link in sidebar - we only send out two Newsletters a month; one just before the start of the month with all the latest news about what is coming up for Port Adelaide Camera Club, and one shortly after our competition which features the winning images from our members.

Our next club outing is on Sunday, 26th March 2017 at 9am - we are heading out to Gorge Wildlife Park - meeting in the carpark at 9am.  Please see details on Facebook HERE

Ofcourse, if you don't 'do' Facebook, please feel free to send an email to the Club Secretary and information can be sent to you via email.  See the 'contact us' button on the sidebar.

February Club Outing to The Fringe, Adelaide

Our first club outing for 2017 was a visit to The Fringe, in the city.

A small group of members met at the Mall's Ball's and ventured out amongst the crowds.  Our host for the outing was Paula McManus and the weather was lovely, it was a great night out.
